Over the last several years, Winnipeg has seen a significant increase in public awareness and interest about human rights issues. Winnipeg, with the new Canadian Museum for Human Rights dominating the skyline, has been internationally recognized as a Canadian centre for human rights.
Winnipeg’s human rights connection is not only clear in its infrastructure, but more importantly, in its community. Winnipeggers are joining together and forming groups, planning events, circulating petitions and taking other notable actions to stand together toward a more just future.
Winnipeg also has a vast array of knowledgeable and quality speakers, and we want to showcase this immense talent as well as facilitate access to them. In partnership with the Manitoba Association for Rights and Liberties, we believe this would continue to build our incredible human rights community and grow leaders in our city.
Help us establish a Speakers Bureau right here in Winnipeg today!
We want to create a website that will facilitate the connection between speakers and those who want to hear their stories, and allow schools, organizations, churches and businesses to search for a speaker by name or topic. We believe that this website will serve several important functions, including:
-Facilitating access to speakers for event planners, encouraging an even higher level of engagement and initiation
-Allowing speakers to promote themselves and their areas of expertise
-Increasing diversity in event speakers, which will serve to reduce burnout for those asked frequently and providing valuable opportunities to other speakers
All of our speakers will be able to choose for themselves whether they’d like to volunteer their time, receive an honorarium or charge a nominal fee.
We are entered to win up to $50,000 from Aviva to make this dream a reality!
Voting begins today! Here’s how you can help make this idea a reality:
