Are you looking to gain experience in the human rights sector?
Are you passionate about human rights?
If so, consider joining our team!
This fall, we’re looking for a group of volunteers to join our team and help us expand and improve the work we’re doing. With nearly two years under our belt now (our birthday’s next month!), we’ve had a bit of time to reflect on our original vision and the services we provide. From the get go, our goal has been to raise awareness about the many events and initiatives that are happening in Winnipeg on a daily basis. We’ve encountered a small problem, although we must say it’s an exciting problem to have: we still don’t believe we’re adequately capturing everything that’s going on in Winnipeg! And that’s where you come in.
We’re presently looking for volunteers for four different positions!
Ambassadors
As some of you may know, the Human Rights Hub was started by me, Christie McLeod. I’m a born and raised Winnipegger, but last year I relocated to Toronto for school! I’ve been running the Hub remotely from Toronto, but as a result, I’ve been unable to attend all of the events on our calendar (my FOMO [fear of missing out] is through the roof!).
We’re looking for ambassadors to attend and document events. By generating content for our social media feeds, you’ll allow us to better cover these events and amplify the important messages being conveyed at these events!
Bloggers
We’re looking for people that would be interested in contributing one blog/month to our website’s blog. With an endless array of human rights issues being debated in our newspapers, workplaces, coffee shops etc, we’d like our blog to be a space to contribute to these conversations. Through dispelling myths, sharing other perspectives and illuminating lesser-known facts, we would hope to raise up the voice of others and challenge some of the stereotypes that perpetuate society.
Calendar Manager
As the Calendar Manager, you’ll be inputting all of the events into our website’s calendar – making you one of the most “in-the-know” people in Winnipeg! You’ll be astounded by the new types of events organizations are always thinking of, and it is a great way to familiarize yourself with the many organizations working in this city. Additionally, this position orients you to the many venues in which organizations host events in Winnipeg, a practical skill if you hope to one day work for a non-profit in Winnipeg. This position would require around 5 hours/week.
Outreach Coordinator
Last winter, we created our master list of organizations and were astounded by just how many groups are working in Winnipeg. We want to strengthen our relationship with these groups and make sure that we’re doing all we can to promote all that they’re doing! I’ll work with the Outreach Coordinator to identify ways to foster these connections. This position likely requires around 5-10 hours/week, depending on the coordinator’s availability and initiative!
We’re hoping to receive applications from a diverse body that reflects Winnipeg’s diversity. Please help us spread the word by letting others know about these opportunities! While these are unpaid positions, we hope that they will provide valuable opportunities for students, young professionals, or other interested candidates to gain relevant working experience in the human rights sector.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to send me an email at christie@humanrightshub.ca. We can’t wait to hear from you!
